Scholar's mate
Scholar's mate is a four-move checkmate that aims the queen and bishop at the weak f7 pawn (or f2 for Black).
The typical order is 1.e4 e5 2.Qh5 Nc6 3.Bc4, threatening Qxf7. If Black develops the kingside knight and ignores f7, the queen takes with mate because the bishop covers that square.
Qxf7# is available here. The queen is protected by the bishop on c4, so the king cannot capture. f7 is the weakest point in the starting position: only the king defends it.
The mate is easy to stop — …g6, …Qe7, or …Nf6 with care for the e5 pawn. chessgator will still name the pattern if someone aims both pieces at f7, because the same idea appears later as a genuine attack, not only as a four-move trap.
